What will we leave behind? The Story Behind Save Family Photos

“People pass, things decay. All that is left are the memories we make, but moments of our lives disappear as our memories do. Through the power of print work and its known ability to outlive us, we have greater potential to live on, long after our bodies no longer do.” –@sierraodessa, whose work has immensely inspired me to continue celebrating family photos.

One year ago today my grandfather died. And that’s when @savefamilyphotos was born.

When Grandaddy Billy left this earth, he left behind a legacy of unconditional love and laughter. He truly lived in the moment.

He made sure to connect with everyone he met, whether it was the butchers and bakers at the grocery store, the waitresses where he ate, the cashiers at stores where he shopped, or even the people waiting in line with him, wherever he was.

He impacted so many people with his kind eyes and contagious smile, with his jokes and operatic serenades, and with his willingness to listen to anyone’s story.

That last piece of his spirit impacted me most; he loved hearing stories. Mine, yours, all of ours.

That’s why @savefamilyphotos is so close to my heart. Thanks to each of you for supporting and celebrating old family photos, and the stories they tell.

You and your stories mean so much to me, especially today. ~shared by @rachellacour with memories from @lalacour
