Here’s to dads. Here’s to the patriarchs who helped us start our stories. Here’s to the father-figures who inspired us to keep writing our life stories, one step at a time. In honor of father-figures everywhere, we’re celebrating dads all week.

My remarkable father, who I miss every day, would have turned 100 this summer. I wrote him a letter a few years before he passed and I found it in his belongings. A blessing in life is to have the time to tell the people you love how you feel about them.
I’m glad I did.

Here are a few excerpts from the letter:

When I tell people about you, which is quite often, they are always touched by my reverence for you.

And the highest compliment I ever receive is when someone says that one of the qualities I attribute to you, reminds them of me.

You have always been, and continue to be, my role model.

You have always been my moral compass, even when I didn’t seem to have one. When I veered from the path, it was thoughts of your dignity and honesty that brought me back.

The greatest gift I have in life is that I am your son. ~shared by
