Uncovering Family Memories Made During Long Summer Days and Captured on Kodachrome

This Kodachrome slide was taken by my Father, Jim Bailey in 1963. It shows my sister Kathy Bailey and my brother Steve Bailey in the backyard of the family house in Kent, Ohio, long before I was born.
.
Our dad studied journalism and photography at Kent State University, and worked as a reporter and photographer after graduation. By the time of this photo, with two kids to support, he had taken a full time job at the Akron Chamber of Commerce, but was still handy with a camera.
.
His love of photography was a lifelong pursuit. He turned 84 this year, and still loves to show off his antique camera collection. Every now and then, we’re lucky enough to be treated to a slide show of his travels around the world, and family memories like this one.
.
In this photo, my brother is sporting his cold bald head – the family’s affectionate term for the summer buzz cut given by our dad – and my sister is wearing her summer look of bangs and skinned knees. Classic American summer memories!
