Photos Can Capture Something about Our Families that we Never Knew
This photo of my mother captures a person I never really knew.
It was taken by my father in the early 1950s, when they were newlyweds living in a duplex on Lovers Lane.
He dreamed of being a photographer, but it took more than a decade (and the end of their marriage) for her to find her path. She returned to SMU, earned a Phd, wrote a book, and became a full professor of cultural anthropology at East Texas State University.
She was a “glamour girl” in black-and-white turned full-spectrum trailblazer.
