A Black and White Photograph of a Man I Never Met

This photo is of my grandfather, a man whom I never met. It was taken in the 1930s, before my mum was born.

My grandfather was a policeman in a little town in Nigeria called Buguma, and he was very well-respected. He met the queen of England when she visited Nigeria in 1956 and received a £5 award for bravery. He never spent it.

He loved my grandmother so much and they waited many years to have my mum, who was their only child. He never took the option of taking another wife as was allowed by custom at the time. He died when my mum was 15 years-old and left a legacy of bravery and love.

I wish I could have met him. ~shared by @zlm4
