Why Your Family Stories are Worth Saving and Sharing

My Mom Gloria holding one of her cousins in their East Austin, Texas neighborhood, sometime around 1960.

My mother was one of the older siblings and therefore a primary caretaker in her family, even as a young girl. I learned recently that she used to hand-sew matching outfits for her little sisters and brothers.

When I look at this photo, I am taken by her beauty, but I’m also heartsore to think of all the sacrifices she had to make as a young, poor Tejana.

I’m so grateful for the incredible life she set up for me and my siblings.

Along with my grandmothers, my mother inspired me to start a business that helps families gather their stories and present them in multimedia formats. I want to inspire folks to capture their family stories while everyone is alive and well. ~shared by @yourstoryhouse
